A unique session! Roundtable Vice President Linda Dowling Almeida will speak with Mark Bulik, New York Times author and editor (The Sons of Molly Maguire; Ambush at Central Park: When the IRA Came to New York) about Irish violence in Ireland, the coal fields of Pennsylvania, and in New York City.

Violent responses to oppression are well known in the history in Ireland. In confronting persecution and exploitation, Irish people have used rebellions, revolutions, sabotage, arson, and attacks—many of which have been well documented, scrutinized, and discussed. But what about violent responses to oppression in the United States? How or when and why did the Irish employ violence as a strategy in America?

Each book takes a detailed and compelling look at the cultural and political roots that framed Irish reactions to circumstances they faced in the late 1800s and early twentieth century.
